Leadership Lesson from Indian Leaders
The country of my birth is India, where we have the largest proportions of population in the younger age groups in the world. In 2020, We are becoming a great IT workforce with Indian origin people leading multinational companies. To name few, we have Indian-origin CEOs, Shantanu Narayen CEO Adobe system, Ajay Banga,CEO of master card , Satya Nadella CEO Microsoft and Sundar Pichai CEO Alphabet among the world's top performing chief executives. On the contrary If you review the India based companies Infosys, Reliance Industries, Tata, Mahindra & Mahindra, Aventis Pharma you will observe that the leaders are also Indian. So there is a lesson of leadership from India which helped all these leaders reach the top management. They didn’t mention skill in financial markets, economics, acquisitions, or negotiation —talents that Western CEOs often claim, they all give the credit to their people. They believe in making investment in People Development which in return help employee engagement despite tight labor markets and widespread job-hopping. All these top Indian leaders have one thing in common they engage with their country, culture, and employees in a characteristic way, and this is an important factor in their performance. They all try to be role model for their employees and try to maintain the organizational culture. It’s an important lesson the budding leaders can learn from them.
When Ratan Tata took over the Tata group in 1991, he wanted to reduce the risk of dependence on single country’s economy. His leadership decision asserted on acquisitions and globilazation was accomplished by Ratan Tata’s personal vision about global market. You wont believe that today half of Tata’s revenue comes from other countries.
